(Takefumi Omori)

On a single cloth, chance and inevitability are woven together.

Through the 1980s and 90s in San Francisco, the birthplace of tie-dye culture, Takefumi Omori built a dyeing technique entirely his own. Since then he has carried tie-dye beyond mere pattern, into one-of-a-kind art born of color and chance.

From delicate work on silk, a fabric long considered difficult to dye, to bold tapestries and, beyond dyeing altogether, drawings in oil paint. His range keeps renewing a single question: what is tie-dye?

No two patterns are ever the same. That is the philosophy of Grateful Tie-Dye Factory, and the way Takefumi Omori has chosen to live.
